A decisão de Donald Trump de negar e revogar vistos a autoridades palestinas, incluindo Mahmoud Abbas, impedindo as suas participações na Assembleia Geral, em Setembro, em Nova Iorque, provocou um movimento forte para transferir a próxima sessão para Genebra.

P. S. Em 1988, quando o governo de Ronald Reagan tentou impedir Yasser Arafat de discursar em Nova Iorque, os trabalhos da Assembleia Geral da ONU foram transferidos para Genebra, onde o líder da OLP usou da palavra.
